How To Deep Clean Carpets For Better Health

Maintenance of a carpet
is not one of the easiest jobs and it takes time and effort to keep your carpet in good condition. Most people use vacuum cleaners for carpet cleaning but this is not enough; your carpets also need some deep cleaning. The truth is that a carpet is easily prone to contaminants and pollutants. Your dog may walk in wagging his tail and shed some of his lovely hair on the carpet. A storm may bring in a few more surprises in the form of dust and allergens. To top it all, there is always the fear of spilling liquid or food, which may cause deep stains. All this translates to one thing: deep carpet cleaning.

It is advisable to deep clean carpets at least once in 12 or 18 months. This will not only remove the dust and the dirt but also the deep stains. As a result of deep carpet cleaning, the life span of your carpet will increase and it will also look as good as new. Deep cleaning of carpets will reduce the wear and tear and keep its colors bright. The question is how best you can deep clean your carpets?

Deep cleaning of carpets is not something that you can do at home always. This kind of carpet cleaning requires professional help. When you buy a new carpet, you will find a manufacturer note that states that the best cleaning process for all carpets is deep cleaning. It is important that you follow the instructions provided by the carpet manufacturer. You can try deep carpet cleaning at home too but for that you will require a carpet shampoo. There are different types of shampoos available in the market that can be used for specific carpets like woolen or silk carpets.

You should avoid using soap and household detergents for deep carpet cleaning as they can severely damage your carpet. To get the best results, start by vacuuming your carpet completely and then apply a pre-conditioning solution. The pre-conditioning solution is a form of mild detergents, which will help the soil on the carpet to loosen before you can start the actual deep cleaning process. Alternatively, you can also hire a carpet cleaning professional to do the job.

Simple Decorating Tips and Advice

Architectural Style: Begin with the architectural style, or the natural surroundings of your home and go with the flow. Cottages look great decorated in a more casual country decor with floral, checks, linen, cotton and cheery colors. Victorian homes are best decorated in a more formal atmosphere, with lots of lace, antiques, ferns, flowered wallpaper and pastel colors. Cape Cod homes look great with nautical themes, the colors found on the seaside and definitely white trim. Homes in the woods should have lots of wood, plants, and natural materials and fabrics that bring the outdoors inside, painted with more earthy colors. City lofts would look great decorated with more modern materials such as glass and chrome with perhaps a black and white theme. Just don't fight against your home's architectural style. Flow with your home's design and surroundings and you'll be well on your way to creating a natural, well balanced, inviting atmosphere throughout.

Color: If your not sure where to begin with your homes color scheme, get inspiration from a rug, a pillow, a painting, a towel, a tapestry or any one of your favorite things and look at the colors in it. If you like the way the colors look together in the object, then you will be pleased with the way the colors look together throughout your home. Choose perhaps three to five colors to spread throughout your rooms. Make sure that each room has at least one of the three to five colors you have chosen in it. This will give your home a comfortable, harmonious, and balanced appearance. After you have chosen your colors make sure to contrast the wall and trim paint. If your trim is dark, keep the walls light. If your trim is light keep the trim darker. My preference is for the walls to be darker than the trim, unless the trim is a dark natural high quality wood. If your trim is outdated low quality wood, or in poor shape, it would be best to paint it. This will give your home a fresh new, updated look. Be sure to use a high quality, gloss or semi-gloss paint to make cleaning your trim a breeze.

Furniture: For furniture keep the big tickets items such as couches, love seats, or recliners neutral and accessorize with color. As far as furniture goes, don't think that all the furniture should be shoved against a wall. Try to create groups of furniture into sitting areas, conversation areas, or reading areas. If you have a large room try to create at least two groups of furniture in the room. Two chairs in front of a large window with an end table in between is a classic seating arrangement. Keep the chairs about 18" away from the window in order for the drapes to hang easily and to be able to walk behind the chairs to open and close the windows. Instead of putting your sofa against a wall, try putting it more in the center of a room, or at an angle if your room is odd shaped. By bringing sofas, coffee tables, and chairs closer to each other it creates a more intimate area, that is easier for conversation, and much more inviting then having the furniture spread out. Try putting just one or two chairs separate from the main grouping for quiet reading or intimate conversations.

Tricks To Help Rejuvenate Your Home's Carpeting

Having carpeting in your home can create a lot of work. Although it’s nice to feel the plushy softness under your feet, carpets do get dirty and worn under a lot of use. You can always clean them, but cleaning is hard on both you and your carpets. After going through numerous cleanings, you may find your carpets looking a little worn and damaged. By following the tips in this article you’ll be able to help your old carpets look better again.

If you clean your carpets often, you’re going to notice that they are losing their color. If you don’t believe it, keep a small piece of new carpeting so that you can compare the two after a few cleanings. People who start cleaning their carpets soon after they are installed are actually doing them more damage than good.

Although you may have never experienced it, many people have had the misfortune to spill some bleach on their carpets. You might think that this would spell the end for the carpet, but it doesn’t. There are actually products on the market today which can counteract the bleach and repair the carpet. By following the instructions on the package, you’ll be able to restore color to your carpet again. Even if it has been bleached in large areas by overexposure to the sun, you’ll be able to restore the original color. You’d think you were dyeing your carpet with this product, but there are no coloring agents in the product at all.

Removing Those Doggone Carpet Dents

If you have plush carpeting, you’ve probably noticed that when you move a piece of furniture it has left big, unsightly dents in the carpet. Couches, tables, pianos, and the like are heavy, and they press down hard on the carpet in the spots where their legs are. If you like to move your furniture around a lot, you may have a number of dents around your house that just haven’t sprung back to life yet. You’ll be glad to know that you can rejuvenate those areas.

Keeping your carpets so fresh and so clean

Maintaining your carpets.... Doesn't sound very possible, but is it? We have all been over to a friend's home and looked at their carpet? Some may say "yes" it looks like a horrible episode of C.S.I., at the actual crime scene. Everyone have definitely all seen the really dirty ones, probably not quite that bad, but we have seen them at one time or another. You may wonder how many of your "other" friends keep their carpet so clean that it looks like they have just had it installed. The answer is preventative maintenance! I'm sure that those friends have a few rules about walking on their carpet. Go walk on it I wouldn't recommend walking on it with a little mud on your shoes, because you will probably be looking down the barrel of a fully loaded twelve-gauge shotgun with the safety off. Well I hope they're not that bad, but I am sure that you will hear a warm but stern "will you please take off your shoes".

Some preventative maintenance tips that I would implement if I were trying to keep my carpet clean would be first to not allow shoes on the carpet. Also, have a no food rule in any carpeted room that you can help (if you have a carpeted dining room I wouldn't suggest eating on the kitchen floor). Respond to spills/stains immediately the longer you wait the better chance the stain has to set. Vacuum regularly- twice a week would be beneficial, but it should be vacuumed at least once a week. Try to have your carpet steam cleaned every 4-6 months.

Carpet Cleaning - Tips to Provide Relief from Allergies

Carpet is the most popular choice of homeowners across the country. It is the most versatile choice that offers a high degree of fashion and at the same time is very practical. Choosing carpet for your home can provide many benefits that you don't get with other flooring choices.

Carpet offers a slip resistant surface that will prevent accidents along with a natural cushion if someone falls. Both carpet and carpet padding will provide an extra layer of much needed insulation between the floors of your home. Depending on the density and weight of the carpet, it adds to the energy efficiency. It is the best choice you can make to provide warmth underfoot and it reduces noise and the clatter, more than any other floor surface. The carpets of today are more stain resistant than they have ever been in the past, which makes cleaning even the worst possible spills easier than ever.

Many people think that carpets and allergies are a bad combination. Even some allergists will encourage their patients to remove carpeting in favor of hardwood or tile floors. However, carpets can actually help to reduce the allergens in your home by trapping them, as long as they are properly cleaned on a regular schedule. Neglecting your carpet will show or may create health concerns you are not aware of.

Indoor air quality is a growing concern today because homes are being built tighter to be more energy efficient. Indoor air quality is important to your health because we spend over 80% of our time indoors. It is one of the top five environmental health risks of our time but you can improve your indoor air and provide dramatic relief from allergies by following a few simple tips.

Most of the problems that are associated with carpet come from a lack of attention to maintenance. If you consistently vacuum your carpet 3 or 4 times a week and set up a regular deep cleaning schedule your carpeting will be free from alot of the allergens that will aggravate your allergies. Vacuuming with a vacuum that has a hepa filter will prevent the circulation of allergens back into the air.

Beautiful Natural Floorcoverings

Seagrass is possibly the best known of the natural floorings; hard wearing with a unique appearance made by flooding the plant with seawater before harvesting relatively open weave due to the variable fibre gauge and has the most "slubs" or irregularities has the most variation of natural shading of all the natural floorings unpredictable green/beige/brown with shade flecking - all dependent on the time of harvest inherently anti-static - vacuums well and is low in absorbency, suitable for most areas in the home.

Chinese Seagrass is cultivated in paddy fields. At a particular point in the growing season the fields are flooded with sea water. After harvesting and drying, the Seagrass is spun into a yarn that is surprisingly impermeable to moisture. Naturally stain resistant and hardwearing, Seagrass is suitable for most places in the home.

Beautiful Natural Floorcoverings

Coir is rustic, rugged and offers excellent wear at reasonable prices made from the outer husk of the coconut, softened in fresh water then spun into yarn coarsely woven with thick chunky fibres giving a strikingly ethnic appearance available in 2 colours and three styles inherently anti-static.

Coir is an inexpensive way to achieve a natural, stylish country look. The fibre used is removed by hand from the coconut husk after softening in salt water. Stones are used to pound the husk and the fibres combed out and dried. This superior fibre is woven on both hand-operated and power looms. The former gives a weave which is available in natural coconut, bleached colours and combinations of the two. The power loomed option offers a tighter, more uniform weave.

Sisal is the hardest wearing of all the natural floorings made from the leaves of the Agave Sisalana plant; a sub-tropical spiky plant related to the cactus very closely woven due to the fine stranded nature of this fibre allowing fine texture accepts dyeing well giving the best range of colours of all the natural fibres inherently anti-static - vacuums well and is relatively unabsorbent, ideal floor covering.

Grown in Brazil and East Africa, Sisal is a fibre which is obtained by crushing the leaves of the Sisalana Algave plant and then separating the resulting pulp. It is washed, dried and graded before being spun into yarn. Used in ropemaking, the same qualities of strength make it ideal for floorcovering.
